Our Ancestors in the News
The theme of the South Dakota Genealogical Booth this year is “Our Ancestors in the News”. Whether it be from birth or death notices, sports, crimes, natural disasters, war, or weddings, newspapers are a great source about finding information about are ancestors/families. You may find out your ancestor has relatives in another town or state. That may lead you to crack a brick wall.
If you want to submit a newspaper article to be put up on the wall at the State Fair booth, please submit the article, and possibly a photo of the relative and/or a short explanation of the article/ancestor. It doesn’t need to be limited to a direct ancestor. Please submit them to either Suzanne Folk, 3909 S. Cathy #11, Sioux Falls, SD 57106 or to SuzanneFlk@gmail.com. (I prefer mailed, but will take email).
We will put the article and photo/explanation on a 12x12 scrapbook page, so please don’t submit lengthy articles or any originals. They will not be returned. The scrapbook pages will go up on the wall of the SDGS fair booth. After the fair, they will go into a scrapbook and may be displayed in the future.
If anybody wants to volunteer to help at the booth, please contact me at SuzanneFlk@gmail.com. The days are Thursday through Sunday, September 1-4, from 9am to 8pm and Monday September 5 from 9am to 6pm. Please contact me if you have any questions.
