Medary Monument Restoration Complete
An article  in the  September 23, 2020 issue of the Brookings Register reports that the restoration work being done on the Medary Monument south of Brookings has been completed.  The work was done by the Niklason Construction Company and supported by fundraising done by the Medary Chapter of the DAR and  supplemented by funds provided by the Brookings County  Commission.  An earlier article in the  September  14, 2018 issue of the Brookings Register described the work needing to be done and talked about the issue of who held the title to the monument.

The Medary Chapter of the DAR has been working on this project since 2015,  A rededication of the monument will be held at a future date.

The history of the townsite of Medary and the origins of the monument are provided on an historical marker near the site and on plaques on the monument itself.  Images of these are on our Gallery link.
